Now that school is out, I am going to look at the books on my blogs in new ways…

1. I want to include preschool picture books on the picture book blog, so starting June 7 I will be booktalking picture books at the new Picture Book of the Day.

The 6 traits of writing archives will stay here.

2. Moving preschool books to Picture Book of the Day will allow me to focus on baby and toddler books at Read to Me.

3. I am also moving chapter books from 5 Great Books to Weekend Reads.

My new blog line-up will look like this:

In Pond Circle by Betsy Franco (Author) and Stefano Vitale (Illustrator), we see the circle of life, told as a cumulative tale.

This is the nymph
the mayfly nymph
that nibbled the algae
that grew in the water
that filled the pond
by Anna’s house.

Primary/Intermediate:Using this book as a model, ask students to write their own “circle of life story for another ecosystem. Use the Story Map 3 graphic organizer to list the order of events before writing.

Millie was walking home from school when she came across a hat shop. There were lots of hats in the window, but the one she liked best was the one with the colorful feathers. Millie went inside.

Word Choice Mini-lesson

Primary/Intermediate: Ask students to write their own “hat” story. Use the Observation Chart graphic organizer to create a list of words about the hat for each of the five senses. (Yes, even taste! Some of the hats that Millie wore were made of food.)
