Inside: Helping Sophia
Inside: Helping Sophia
When my daughter (now a college sophomore) was in kindergarten, she made friends with a little red-haired girl in a wheelchair. For years I tried to write a story about their friendship. When I began work on the Main Street School: Kids with Character series I knew right away that I would put their story in the book on caring! When the girls were in the third grade, the students had their first “wheelchair driving lessons.”
“Who is going to help Sophia?” asked Rachel.
“We are,” said Miss K. “After all, this is the third grade.
“Yeah,” said Sam.
“What are we going to do? asked Rachel.
“We’re going to have a wheelchair driving class,” said Miss K.

What a positive story to share with kids. Thanks, Anastasia!
